Verge bonds
Under the Local Government (Uniform Local Provisions) Regulations 1996 the City requires that all works within the road reserve are covered by the issue of a permit.
Verge bonds
Building licenses over $12 000 require a verge bond of $1 600.
Demolition licences require a bond of $3 000 to be paid by the demolition contractor, accompanied by the demolition bond agreement. Payments received by the builder or property owner will not be accepted.
Commercial or subdivisions – assessment of the site determines the amount of the bond.
This is to ensure that if any damage occurs during works, the footpath or verge area will be reinstated to its original position.
Before work begins
It is advisable to inspect the footpath or verge for any existing damage. A city officer will assess the verge and collect photographic evidence of any existing damage to the footpath, kerb and crossover.
After work is completed
You must complete the verge bond refund form and attach the receipt from payment of the bond and return it to the City of Fremantle for processing. The City will arrange a final inspection of verge and determine whether a full refund of the bond is applicable, taking into consideration any earlier damage reports.
Requirements
Reinstatements must comply with the City's specifications.
- If you wish to complete any reinstatement works yourself, contact the City for appropriate guideline information.
- Make sure that all work is completed before requesting your bond refund, as this will reduce the time that it takes to process.
- If you submit a verge bond refund form to the City when the works are not completed, the City may initiate works to reinstate the area as appropriate, and the costs will be deducted from your bond – with any unspent balance being refunded to you upon completion.
- Your refund will be reimbursed by cheque - please ensure that the application for bond refund has been completed in full with the correct mailing address.
