South Terrace street lighting upgrade

The improved street lighting in South Terrace will work in with recommendations coming from the Community Safety Working Group to ensure an improved level of safety for late night patrons entering and leaving the city.
Week commencing 22 August 2011
Preliminary works begin this week commencing on stage 1A of the upgrade to street lighting on South Terrace, Fremantle between Essex and Parry Street. These preliminary works include laying of cabling and conduit in preparation for the installation of luminaries.

Works update - October 2011
Following the preliminary works in August 2011, this project is on hold until materials are received for installing the new light poles. It is anticipated that this should occur in early 2012.
Week commencing 20 February 2012
Street lighting poles were erected on Friday 24 February 2012, however, due to an issue with the manufacture of the fittings, the works were unable to be completed. The works will be completed and lights will be fully operational by early March 2012.

New street lights are now operating. Next stage of the South Terrace lighting will commence in the new financial year
Works update - July 2012
Following the commissioning of the new street lights and installation of banners promoting City of Fremantle events between March and July 2012, the City is pleased to announce that stage 2 of the South Terrace street lighting project is now in the planning stage. Stage 2 of this project will see the installation of 9 additional street light poles along South Terrace from Essex Street to Market Street and is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2012.
Works update - November 2012
Stage 2 of this project has now been completed. Nine new street light poles were erected along South Terrace and Market Street featuring the promotional banner poles. City of Fremantle banners will be installed on all streetlights along South Terrace and Market Street during the week commencing Monday 26 November 2012. Light heads are due to arrive and be installed within 4 weeks and will be commissioned by Western Power after that.
Stage 3 of this project will continue down Market Street to Philimore Street. This will occur in the 2013/14 financial year.
