Household waste and recycling

City of Fremantle's focus is on sustainability and as such we aim to reduce the amount of household waste which is deposited in landfill sites. The City’s waste management and recycling services include:

  • weekly garbage collection
  • bulk and green waste collections – five times per year
  • recycling – a member of the South Metropolitan Regional Council
  • hazardous household waste recycling.

Weekly rubbish collection

We collect normal household refuse from your rubbish bin on a weekly basis.  Weekly domestic waste collection map.

Placement of bins for collection

Bins need to be placed on the verge by 6.00 am on your collection day. Ensure that bins are placed as close to the kerbline as possible, and that the lid is completely closed. Any waste that is not contained in the bin will not be collected.

Remove your bin from the verge and place it in its normal storage area after collection day.

Place your yellow recycling bin about half a metre from the green bin to allow clear access for the side loading service vehicle's grab arm.

Your bin lid must close so that the contents do not spill when it is lifted or the lid does not blow open causing street litter.

Place your bin clear of parked cars, trees, pole, etc to allow clear access to the service vehicles.

If you have a disability or are unable to put out your bin, we are able to assist. Contact our waste management team on 08 9432 9999 to make arrangements.

What will be collected

We are only able to accept normal household waste, and cannot accept building waste products such as sand, bricks or asbestos. Bins containing such items will not be emptied.

Contact our waste management team on 08 9432 9999, to discuss the removal of building waste or waste which you cannot dispose of during the normal weekly waste collection.

Handy hints

Return bins to your property as soon as possible.

Store bins in a shaded area.

Clean bins regularly.

Wrap all moist and perishable foods in newspaper before placing in your green bin.

Freeze all smelly food and place in your green bin the night before collection.

Put lawn clippings and small prunings on top of the material in your green bin to prevent jamming.
