Fremantle Regional Domestic Violence Coordinating Committee

The Fremantle Regional Domestic Violence Co-ordinating Committee was established in 1996. The Committee aims to improve the effectiveness of services for victims and perpetrators of domestic and family violence and to increase community grass roots participation.

The Fremantle Regional Domestic Violence Co-ordinating Committee is a cooperative collaboration of various agencies in the region that provide services in relation to domestic violence. These agencies consist of both government and community organisations and include the police, Homeswest, Family and Children’s Services, Centrelink, the Ministry of Justice, the Health Department, the Education Department, women’s refuges, community legal centres, family counselling services, youth services and various Indigenous and ethnic services.

The role of the committee is to:

  • ensure the involvement of all sections of the community including Indigenous and ethnic groups
  • build networks amongst services within and between regions
  • to increase the effectiveness of services within and between regions
  • maintain the membership and accountability of relevant services in the region
  • promote community awareness
  • drive policy changes and monitor the effectiveness of policy implementation at the regional level
  • advocate for services and resources on behalf of the region
  • implement various projects and strategies aimed at reducing the level of domestic and family violence in the community

The Fremantle Regional Domestic Violence Co-ordinating Committee does not provide a direct service to the public but facilitates, coordinates and builds public awareness and provides a link between government and communities throughout the region.
