WELCOME TO THE MEETING PLACE ‘Belonging to, Giving to and Receiving from the Community’ The Meeting Place Community Centre is situated in a lovely renovated heritage building on the corner of South Terrace and Jenkin Street in South Fremantle. The centre has been operating since 1976 and is a part of the neighbourhood house movement that has flourished across Australia over the past 3 decades. An initiative of the City of Fremantle the centre provides adult education programs, a volunteer service and community support, delivering them in multiple locations.

Adult Community Education: The Centre develops four seven week terms of community education per year provided by volunteer tutors who share their skills and experiences with others in an informal setting.

The Fremantle Volunteer Service: Acts as a central point for volunteering within the Fremantle community. It provides community members with access to information and referrals to suitable volunteering positions and supports local non-profit community groups with referrals, promotion and volunteer training. It promotes volunteering in the community, focusing on recruiting volunteers and increasing the organisational visibility of its member agencies.

Community Support The Centre offers low cost room hire, referrals to other community services and community noticeboards.

The sharing of skills and interests in a friendly, homely atmosphere contributes to people having a sense of belonging to their community, which in turn facilitates broader community participation and a greater sense of wellbeing.

The Meeting Place’s community education and volunteering focus plays an important role in building pathways to vocational education, training and job participation. Through involvement in courses and volunteering centre participants increase their confidence and acknowledge existing competencies, whilst attaining new skills and building new social networks
