ANZAC Day 2014

The ANZAC Day dawn service will be held Thursday 25 April, 5.30 am at Monument Hill.

The ANZAC Day public holiday will be observed on Friday 25 April 2014.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

The Fremantle Dawn Service commences at 5.50 am on ANZAC Day and is coordinated by the City of Fremantle in conjunction with the Fremantle Memorial Wardens at Monument Hill War Memorial.

All are welcome to attend the service and any organisations or individuals who wish to lay a wreath during the ceremony are asked to register their name with the City of Fremantle on 08 9432 9945 by Monday 14 April.

The ANZAC Day commemorative exhibition

Runs for its eighth year showcasing items from unique public and private collections which will be on display in the Fremantle Town Hall, 8 William Street, Fremantle on Friday 25 April from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm. Entry is free to the public.

This year the exhibition is supported by the Museum of WA. Military Historical Society, author Andrew Pittaway and local primary schools. There will also be a display on the HMAS Sydney. Sing Australia Choir will be performing a repertoire of wartime songs at 9.00 am in the hall.

ANZAC Day parade road closures

The following road closures will be implemented in the Fremantle CBD for the ANZAC Day march from 9.00 am to approximately 12 noon affecting these streets:

  • Market Street (from Cantonment Street to Collie Street)
  • High Street (from Market Street to Pakenham Street)
  • South Terrace (from Market Street to Essex Street)
  • Essex Street (from South Terrace to Marine Terrace)
  • Pakenham Street (from High Street to Collie Street)
  • Marine Terrace (from Norfolk Street to Collie Street)
  • Bannister Street (from Pakenham Street to Market Street)
  • Nairn Street (from Pakenham Street to Market Street)
  • Collie Street (from Marine Terrace to South Terrace)
  • Essex Street (from Marine Terrace to South Terrace)
  • Norfolk Lane (from Essex Street to Norfolk Street)
  • Essex Lane (from Collie Street to Essex Street)

ANZAC Day morning tea

A free morning tea will be served just outside Fremantle Town Hall, 8 William Street, Fremantle between 8.00 am and 12 noon from the Cafe2U mobile van.

ANZAC Day parade

Parade step off time is 10.15 am from the Esplanade Reserve. The parade will travel through the main streets of Fremantle and along the cappuccino strip where a salute will be taken. There will be a short closing ceremony when the parade returns to the Esplanade.

The ANZAC Day parade is coordinated by the City of Fremantle and is supported by the Returned Services League (RSL) of Australia WA Branch and Fremantle Police.

East Fremantle Oval. Service commences at 2.45 pm. Bouncedown at 3.00 pm. Pre–game entertainment from 1.00 pm.

Public transport

There will be free travel on public transport for anyone wearing military uniform or medals traveling to the ANZAC Day Dawn Service or ANZAC Day Parade in Fremantle.

The Fremantle CAT Bus will also be running from 10.00 am.

A special Fremantle Line ANZAC Day train will depart Perth Station at 4.13 am to arrive at Fremantle Station at 4.41 am.

A shuttle bus service (Route 622) to Monument Hill War Memorial will depart Fremantle Station Stand 3 at 4.50am.

After the Dawn Service, a return shuttle bus to Fremantle Station will operate where all train services will run according to a public holiday timetable.

City of Fremantle services public holiday operating hours

City services will be closed on the Friday 25 April public holiday except for the Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle Leisure Centre and Fremantle Visitor Centre. Visit the Easter long weekend and ANZAC Day operating hours page.
