Swimming pool to reopen

The Fremantle Leisure Centre’s new pools will reopen on Monday 7 April. Mayor Pettitt will officially open the pool with a ribbon–cutting at 10.00 am followed by a tour of the new facility by the project coordinator.

The new resurfaced pools boast geothermal heating, a new playground area, access entry ramps and repaved grounds. Term 2 swimming lessons resume on Monday 28 April.

Swim School

Swim School will be re-opening for term 2, 2014 commencing lessons on Monday 28 April. Please click here for information regarding swim school.

Some of the improvements to swim school include:

  • 5% discount for online bookings
  • Learn to Swim programs - Under 5’s and Over 5’s (previously Pre-School and School Age) will be an ongoing program, breaking for the school holidays, with students returning to the same class after the break.

Some of the many benefits for the Learn to Swim ongoing system include:

  • direct debit only for ongoing lessons
  • not having to re-enrol each term
  • join or cancel out of a program at any time
  • ongoing learning and assessment–when skills are achieved the student moves to the next level therefore eliminating stress on the student to perform at assessment time

March update

Background

In September 2012, the City submitted a grant application to the Department of Sport and Recreation for financial assistance to upgrade the Fremantle Leisure Centre’s 25 and 50 metre pools and surrounding areas.

The City was successful in its application for the pool upgrade funding, with the state government agreeing to contribute $1m towards the overall cost of the project.

The scope of the pool upgrades includes fully tiling all swimming pools (excluding program pool), installing disability ramps into both 50 and 25 metre pools, repaving the whole centre concourse, alterations to the playground pool, geothermal heating and a cogeneration plant.

At this stage we cannot provide a definite date for reopening as this will depend on many uncontrollable variables, however, we are hopeful that the centre will be in full operation as of early 2014.

The gym facility will continue to remain open during the pools closure, monthly gym passes can be purchased from either the Fremantle Arts Centre or Customer Service Centre at the Town Hall:
