School age swim programs
Our school age program has been developed for children 5 years+, and teaches correct technique over short distances, including survival distance swimming and skills. The correct technique component of our teaching ensures that once your child has mastered the stroke, they can then swim over a distance with ease.
The following information provides details of each level:
Bluebottles
This beginner level teaches water confidence and basic skills, in a safe and fun environment. (Maximum 4 students).
Minnows
The foundations of swimming are taught, including freestyle arms clearing the water, a flutter kick and the initial breaststroke kick. (Maximum 4 students).
Snappers
This level incorporates the initial teaching of freestyle breathing and backstroke arms. Breaststroke kick becomes propulsive. (Maximum 5 students).
Otters
The freestyle breathe and blow skill is extended to 10 m, backstroke to 5 m, and breaststroke kick is introduced on the front with an aid. (Maximum 5 students).
Turtles
Freestyle and backstroke are developed over 15 m. Breaststroke arms are learnt separately, to ensure correct technique is acquired. (Maximum 6 students).
Marlins
Freestyle will be refined and over 25 m, and correct technique for backstroke over 15 m. Breast stroke arms and leg action is brought together for initial timing of the stroke. Dolphin kick for butterfly is introduced. (Maximum 6 students).
Piranhas (25 m or 50 m pool)
This level prepares your child for school swimming carnivals. All strokes are over 25 m, with emphasis on correct technique. Included in this level is a competitive dive, initial sidestroke and the introduction of butterfly arms. Also starts, finishes and turns for each stroke are taught. (Maximum 8 students).
Mantarays (50 m pool)
This level helps your child master correct technique in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and survival backstroke. Arm and leg actions in sidestroke and butterfly come together in this level. (Minimum 8 students).
Sharks (50 m pool)
This level is for children with an efficient, competent swimming ability.
Children are expected to swim longer distances in all formal and survival strokes. Basic survival and water rescue skills are an important component. (Maximum 10 students).
Junior lifeguard club
Endorsed by the Royal Life Saving Society of Western Australia, this hour long program is conducted weekly for the length of the term.
Lifesaving and life guarding skills are taught by a coach in a fun club environment. Personal and team goals are achieved along with the opportunity for assessment in Royal Life Saving Society stages 10 – Bronze Star. (Maximum 10 students).
Youth swim – term program
This weekly session is designed for children who are not ready for squads and need further stroke development. Entry to this class is by assessment only.
Teenswim – term program 12 years+
This program is for children who are not interested in squad swimming and just want to swim once a week. This 45 minute session will help keep your child’s swimming fitness up and allow them to meet new friends.
