The Fremantle History Centre is currently trialing a new photographic database. We would like to hear your feedback - contact us on 08 9432 9739 or email lhc@fremantle.wa.gov.au.

The older database is still available to search and view.

Local history and you

If you have any local history items of interest you would like to donate or loan — photographs, books, memorabilia, art works, papers of local societies and organisations — we would like to hear from you. Contact us on 08 9432 9739 or email lhc@fremantle.wa.gov.au.

Family history

You can access and search the extensive databases of Ancestry (ancestry.com.au) at the local history collection, as well as on the internet computers throughout the library, and start tracing your family tree.

Use Intramaps to assist with your research

IntraMaps is an easy-to-use geographic information system that retrieves information and displays it spatially and textually. It will only display information that is already in the public domain.

It is useful in local history research for Fremantle as you are able to compare properties, parks, public spaces, streets etc. over time using aerial photographs from earlier years. The 1948 aerial view is especially useful in this respect.
