Lest we forget: Remembrance Day to honour fallen

05 Nov 2009

ON Wednesday, November 11, the City of Fremantle will recognise Remembrance Day at the Monument Hill Memorial Reserve, acknowledging the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I.

Fremantle Mayor, Brad Pettitt and councillors, together with the Ex-Services Alliance, are encouraging the general public to attend this year’s Remembrance Day Memorial Service.

Last year, an estimated crowd of 350 to 400 attended to remember those who paid the ultimate price for their country.

This will be the first time Brad Pettitt has attended the service as Fremantle Mayor, yet he will be carrying on a decades-long tradition joining the community from all backgrounds as one to pay their humble respects.

“I am honoured not only as Mayor of Fremantle, but as a proud Australian for the opportunity to join the community to pause and reflect on the servicemen and women who gave their lives, defending our values and freedom, many of whom are no longer around today to join us” Brad Pettitt said.

“Even though many of them may have gone; the strength of the community ensures their memories shall never fade away.”

Assembly is at 10:45am for a prompt start at 11am. Monument Hill Memorial Reserve is located on High Street, Fremantle.
