Writing together never too old to work

16 Oct 2009

AUTHORS Geoff Bebb and Michelle Denise believe variety is the spice of life, and have proven age is no barrier to setting and achieving ambitious new goals.

As part of Seniors Week celebrations, the duo will be at the Fremantle City Library for a Writing Together Workshop to reveal the beauty of writing together, and sharing tips on how to successfully co-author a novel.

They used a technique called the ‘ego bucket’ while writing together during the past seven years. This involved placing their ‘ego’ into a tangible object – a bucket by the door – which mentally helped them work in harmony with one another.

“In order to be able to write successfully in a totally integrated style, we discovered we needed to put our egos aside in order to agree on various changes,” they said.

“After seven years of writing together we’re still talking to each other, so something must be working.”

Even after just publishing two books together Fragments and Gecko Deflection, they refuse to slow down as seniors, still finding time to work with the Association for the Blind and GM Free Food Consumers Network.

The Writing Together Workshop will be held at the Fremantle City Library on Friday, October 30 from 10am – 11am, with free morning tea included as part of Seniors Week.

A free hearing test will also be offered on Monday, October 26 from 10am – 1pm at the Fremantle City Library.

Seniors are encouraged to make use of free public transport offered by TransPerth during Seniors Week in making their way to the workshop.
