Verge beautification

Low cost ground covers
As part of the verge beautification program, the City is offering subsidised native ground cover plants for verges in Fremantle. Contact our parks and landscape team on 08 9432 9999 for more information.
Mulch
We have a limited supply of mulch to City of Fremantle residents to assist with the establishment of your native verge garden. Contact our parks and landscape team on 08 9432 9999 to lodge your request.
Free street trees
Fremantle residents can apply to have a street tree planted on their verge at no cost to the property owner. Our parks and landscape officers will talk to you about the trees that are most suitable for your verge. Click here for a street tree application form. Once the request has been received, a member of the City's Parks and Landscape Team will inspect the location during April / May of each year to determine suitability of the requested tree and planting will occur between April and July each year.
Worm factory
Worm factories are available to Fremantle residents at a subsidised cost. The 'Reln Worm Factory' comes with four molded plastic legs, plus an information and instruction manual. Worms incur an additional charge. Contact our city works team on 08 9432 9999 for more information.
Green cones
Green cones are available for sale to Fremantle residents at a subsidised rate. The green cone is delivered and comes with an instruction manual and a 400 g sample pack of accelerator powder. You can fill an application for green cone form and pay the fee at our service and information centre, located at the City of Fremantle, Town Hall Centre, 8 William Street, Fremantle. Compost bin
Fremantle residents can purchase a 220 L Compostabin. The Compostabin can be delivered to your door, is made of 100% recycled plastic and comes with a seven year manufacturer guarantee.

Chemical free weed control program
The City uses a non-chemical method of weed control on the City's footpaths, medians and road kerbs. This method uses steam to eradicate weeds instead of chemical based sprays. Contact our parks and landscape team on 08 9432 9999 for more information.
Overhanging vegetation
Trees, shrubs and vines obstructing pedestrian progress along footpaths from private property should be reported to reduce the risk to footpath users. The City will request for residents/ratepayers to prune or remove vegetation. Residents can contact our parks and landscape team on 08 9432 9999.
Street tree maintenance
Street tree maintenance such as pruning for sight-line clearances (vision from intersections, driveways etc) and power line pruning are part of the City's pruning program which is generally followed, however reasonable requests for extra pruning will be considered. Residents are reminded that they are not permitted to prune verge trees. Contact our parks and landscape team on 08 9432 9999.
Removal of street trees is not permitted. Requests for removal of street trees will only be approved where the City's tree planting and preservation policy permits. Contact our parks and landscape team on 08 9432 9999 if you require any further information.
