Each year the City of Fremantle proudly participates in the national celebrations for NAIDOC Week and events are held throughout Fremantle and at our Walyalup Aboriginal Cultural Centre.
In 2018 NAIDOC Week runs from 8 to 15 July and the theme is: Because of her we can.
Join us for the City of Fremantle NAIDOC Week opening celebration on Sunday 8th of July between 1:00pm and 5:00pm at the PCYC in Hilton
Celebrations will commence with Welcome to Country by Marie Taylor followed by entertainment, food and activities including:
· Music from the Natasha Elridge Band
· Damper making
· Bush tucker BBQ by Cultural Connections
· A weaving circle with Sharyn Egan
· A community canvas painting session with J.D. Penangke.
· Buster the Fun Bus and the Fremantle Toy Library
At 3:00pm join us for a very special performance of Kaarla Kaatijin by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company. Audiences are invited to come on a journey into the lives of Djitty Djitty (Willy Wagtail), Kulbardi (Magpie), Yonga (Kangaroo) and many more familiar friends as they explore the importance of Kaarla (Fire). Children are encouraged to stay and meet the performers after the show. Kaarla Kaatijin is 45 minutes in length and suitable for all ages.
