Homelessness Week: 2–8 August 2020
The City of Fremantle is marking Homelessness Week (2–8 August 2020) with a donation drive to support vulnerable people facing homelessness in our community.
It is estimated that more than 9000 Western Australians experience homelessness every night, a third of which are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
This number is expected to grow, not just for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, but across the whole population as a result of the pending homelessness crisis facing WA as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
How can you make a difference during Homelessness Week?
- Purchase an online voucher of your choosing, such as a Coles or Woolworths voucher, local coffee voucher, haircut voucher or a voucher for any other essential service or item, and email the online voucher to email@example.com or drop it off at the City’s Admin building at Fremantle Oval (attention Neighbour to Neighbour team).
These vouchers will be shared with local not-for-profit organisation to give to their vulnerable clients in need. Note: we will not accept Coles or Woolworths voucher options that are redeemable for alcohol.
- Donate without Doubt: People can put their spare change into one of the ‘lifesaver’ collection boxes located throughout the Fremantle city centre, with all donations matched by the City of Fremantle and given to St Patrick’s Community Support Centre.
- The Community Shelf at Fremantle Library always appreciates donations of non-perishable food, socks, towels, kitchen supplies, groom items, baby/kids’ essentials and personal hygiene items.
