(6/2/17) We love our fig trees

Since 2008 the City has been monitoring the health of our beloved Moreton Bay Fig trees, especially those located in Kings Square, Esplanade Reserve, near the Fremantle Leisure Centre and Fremantle train station. Like all things, with age comes a few extra aches and pains and unfortunately the health of these trees is declining.

The City has been increasingly focused on working to preserve these special trees, of particular concern is the ‘Christmas Fig’ tree in Kings Square. The City has recently engaged an independent arborist to conduct specialised sampling and testing, and over the coming months you will see works around this tree we hope will slow or even reverse the decline.

The City is committed to taking care of our trees and encourages people to report any tree issues on City managed land to parksandlandscape@fremantle.wa.gov.au.
