Nominations are now open for the THIS IS FREMANTLE Aspire Award, which provides local professionals the chance to increase their knowledge and enlarge their professional network at an international conference.

The City of Fremantle has partnered with Business Events Perth to offer a $5,000 scholarship to assist an individual’s personal and professional development through attendance at a business event or conference of their choice.

The scholarship covers travel, accommodation and registration expenses, and entry is open to anyone who lives or works in Fremantle.

Deputy Mayor Andrew Sullivan said the City was pleased to once again join with Business Events Perth to offer the THIS IS FREMANTLE Aspire Award.

“Tapping into the lucrative business tourism market is a key pillar in the City’s Destination Marketing Strategic Plan, and the Aspire Award is one of the ways we can raise Fremantle’s profile as a destination for business events and conferences,” Cr Sullivan said.

“By providing local professionals the opportunity to travel to attend conferences it not only allows them to learn new things and network with other people in their field, it also gives them the chance to talk about Fremantle and what a great place it is to visit.

“And once we know more about what organisations are out there and what events they hold, it gives us the chance to promote Fremantle to those organisations and bid for those events in future.”

The winner of the 2020 City of Fremantle Aspire Award was family doctor and Notre Dame University senior lecturer Dr Ramya Raman.

Dr Raman intends to use her scholarship to attend the Asia Pacific conference of the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners and Family Physicians.
