Fremantle Library to host book sale

Fremantle Library is organising a flash book sale starting tomorrow to prepare for its move to Walyalup Civic Centre.

The sale will be held from 15–29 October at Fremantle Oval, with thousands of items up for grabs including a huge selection of non-fiction and fiction novels, children’s books, DVDs, CDs, toys from the Freo Toy Library and more – all priced between 20c and $2.

Library members and the wider community are all welcome to the book sale to pick up a bargain and farewell the Fremantle Oval which has housed the library for the past four years during the renewal projects works at Walyalup Koort and the construction of Walyalup Civic Centre.

Fremantle Library Manager Jayne Cleave said staff were clearing out old stock to make way for the new 2500 books that will be added to the library’s new collection.

“The amazing new library at Walyalup Civic Centre will feature more than 28,000 loanable items, including carefully curated collections to expand our popular and engaging hot reads and classics collections, while also increasing our parenting, graphic novels, philosophy and poetry titles,” Ms Cleave said.

“It’s going to be an incredible space for our community, with 110% increase in floor space across two floors and extended opening hours.

“There will be heaps of new technology, including 22 new public computers with wheelchair accessible desks, new gaming consoles and gaming networks, a 3D printer, interactive screens, faster Wi-Fi and loanable iPads.

“Overall, we can’t wait to invite our community back to a more central, more inviting and more pleasant space to spend time in.”

The Walyalup Civic Centre boasts a Library Lounge located on the ground floor that’s open Monday–Friday from 8am–7pm and weekends from 9am–5pm, plus the main library on the lower level that’s open Monday–Friday from 9am–7pm and weekends from 9am–5pm.

Fremantle Local History Centre will also be moving to Walyalup Civic Centre with its own dedicated space, interactive 65-inch screen for viewing digital resources, accessible digital microfilm readers and printers.

The opening date of the Walyalup Civic Centre will be announced in the coming days.
