Get into the holiday spirit with Fremantle's Christmas Festival

City of Fremantle’s popular Christmas Light Show will return in December to headline the port city’s diverse schedule of free festive events.

There’s something unique about Christmas in Freo, and from 1-21 December Fremantle Christmas Festival will deliver the kind of festive fun that visitors to Perth’s port city have come to expect.

The official program includes a Christmas Light Show, a Christmas Maze, Fremantle’s well-loved Community Christmas Carols, an Elf on the Shelf Christmas Trail, plus many more events throughout Fremantle.

Over five festive summer evenings between 12-16 December, visitors to Walyalup Koort – the new heart of Fremantle – will see Fremantle’s heritage buildings in a new light.

The historic Fremantle Town Hall and St John's Anglican Church will be transformed by seasonal projections from local artist Tim Green.

Light up fairies will entertain audiences from 7pm, before the show starts at 8pm, and families won’t want to miss Santa's special visit from 8-8.30pm.

This will be the light show’s second year at Walyalup Koort after it played an impressive role in celebration events for the reimagined city centre’s launch last December.

Walyalup Koort’s hawker-style food stalls at FOMO and entertainment hub at Funlab contributed to Fremantle’s success in being listed within TIME’s top 50 World’s Greatest Places in 2022.

Over the same week you can discover festive school holiday fun at Walyalup Koort in our Christmas maze. Find your way through the maze, solve cryptic clues and capture fun family photos at Santa’s sleigh.

From 1-21 December the popular Elf on the Shelf Christmas Trail is back.

Follow the walkable, family-friendly trail through nine of Fremantle’s unique attractions, shops and venues and help Santa find his cheeky elves for your chance to win great prizes.

As you search for elves, you could also see many local shopfronts decorated for the Shine a Light Christmas Trail, delivered by the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Fremantle.

Registration for Elf on the Shelf Christmas Trail is free and essential. The event is proudly brought to you by THIS IS FREMANTLE | City of Fremantle, The Old Courthouse, Fishing Boat Harbour, WA Shipwrecks Museum, Fremantle Prison, Fremantle Markets, FOMO, and Toyworld Fremantle, Little Creatures and South Terrace Piazza.

Fremantle’s well-loved Community Christmas Carols will keep the spirit of Christmas alive in Walyalup Koort on 9 December, when families and friends gather on their picnic blankets on the grass to experience a heart-warming night of carols from local performers.

The kids will be entertained at the Community Christmas Carols with Buster, Christmas fairies, bubbles and Walyalup Koort’s popular playground.

“Fremantle’s relaxed holiday vibe takes the stress out Christmas shopping and brings fun back into the experience,” Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said.

“You can find unique and interesting gifts and experiences in Freo, then celebrate your shopping wins over sunset dinner or drinks with friends.”
