Percent for Art
The City of Fremantle Percent for Art Policy supports the commissioning of original, high-quality works of art to enhance the public interface of new developments and to create new professional and economic opportunities for artists.
To achieve this, the Percent for Art Policy stipulates 1% of the estimated development costs of relevant development types within specified areas be attributed to commissioning an original site-specific public artwork.
Alternatively, applicants can pay cash in lieu to the City, who will use these funds for the purpose of providing public art within the locality or area of the development.
We welcome and encourage applicants to discuss their proposed artwork with the City’s Public Art Coordinator in the early stages of development. We also encourage you to consider engaging a specialised public art consultant, who can coordinate, guide and support you through all stages of the commissioning process. Here is a list of Public Art Consultants for your consideration, we advise you speak with more than one consultant about your proposal.
For the requirements of the City’s Percent for Art Policy (Local Planning Policy 2.19 | Contributions for Public Art and/or Heritage Works), and for further information download the Percent for Art Developer’s Guidelines.
