The City of Fremantle is pleased to announce that we are reintroducing verge mowing to most residential areas within the city.
What is happening?
As part of our commitment to improving core services to ratepayers, the City has recently moved to reintroduce residential verge mowing to areas of the city that have wide verges. The City acknowledges it is not always possible for residents to maintain verges that are wider than standard, so the Council has decided to offer a free verge mowing service in the suburbs of Beaconsfield, White Gum Valley, Hilton, Samson and parts of Fremantle. This will help to make the streets more attractive by keeping weeds and long grass under control.
For more information on the Verge Mowing catchment area, please refer to the verge mowing area map.
How often will it happen?
The City will mow residential verges in the catchment area four times a year. Mowing will coincide with the peak growing season for verge weeds and will occur in the following cycle:
September / October
What do I need to do?
Please keep your verge free of items such as cars, boats or trailers which may prevent mowing during the proposed mowing period. We will coordinate our mowing days with bin collection, and bulk and green waste collection to minimise the inconvenience to you.
What if don’t want my verge mowed?
If you have a beautiful verge garden or lawn, we understand that you may not want your verge mown. To opt-out of the residential verge program please
What if I want to opt back in?
You can opt in and out of this program at any time. Simply contact us via the same method as above and we'll add you back in.
Thinking of creating a verge garden?
Keep an eye out for the exciting new range of verge garden initiatives. These include the verge garden preparation scheme, free mulch, bigger free plant scheme and requests for street trees. A new Verge Policy is currently being developed which will make it easier to create a verge garden contributing to beautiful streets.
