New and improved change rooms are coming to one of Freo's most-loved beaches, South Beach.
The facilities will include new male and female changing rooms and toilets, three universal access/family rooms, storage for beach wheelchairs and a new Changing Places facility.
Changing Places are secure, private toilet facilities with extra space and features to assist people with disability.
The Changing Places facility has been included in the project through the support of a $150,000 state government grant.
Preliminary works for the new South Beach change rooms are kicking off in May 2023 with geotechnical investigations to assess the terrain conditions. There may be some disruptions to park users during this time and the City apologises for any inconvenience caused.
It's an important first step in getting the site ready for the construction of the new facilities, which is anticipated to start in the last quarter of 2023.
Demolition of the old facilities is set for late June 2023 with interim facilities in place during the construction of the new change rooms.
