A leadership summit for young women, mind and body courses for people with cancer and their carers, as well as theatre, music and photography projects that explore a variety of contemporary issues are just some of the initiatives that have received funding from the City of Fremantle in its latest round of grants. There were five recipients in the Community category: Mental health training hosted by Apace. A spring harvest event at the Hilton Harvest Community Garden. Free mind and body courses for Fremantle residents with cancer and their carers run by Cancer Council WA. Investment in The Footpath Library’s First Nations literature catalogue, for use by people experiencing homelessness. Household grocery support for 20 Fremantle families, identified by PortCare to be experiencing financial stress. Contribution to a Women’s Leadership Empowerment Summit for girls to connect with female leaders and discuss career pathways, facilitated by We Are W/M. Recipient Funding Received Self Made Girls $3,950.00 We Are W/M $5,500.00 There were eight recipients in the Arts category: A program of events, called Totally Lit, which connects audiences of all ages and interests with a variety of writing and storytelling, produced by Word Play Festival. A three-part workshop series for emerging filmmakers, run by Gather Films. Support for the inaugural artist-in-residence program at Vessel Contemporary, an independent contemporary arts organisation based in the historic Naval Store building. Two exhibitions featuring Artists of North Fremantle; the first consisting of paintings, photography, visual art, ceramics and sculpture, the second including music, storytelling, poetry and performance. A series of workshops and events known as SHACTIVATE, that celebrate the local artistic scene, run by SHACC. WA Youth Theatre Company’s production of ‘Scenes from the Climate Era’ by David Finnigan, premiering in November 2025. Singer-songwriter Saritah Newman harnesses the regenerative power of sound healing and group songwriting to address contemporary issues like climate and social justice, that culminates in a live music performance. An exhibition by photographer Brett Leigh Dicks that explores the legacy of atomic energy upon the landscape, to be held at the Moores Building Art Space in September 2025.
