Meet Noeleen Hamlett, a Yamitji Nyarlu artist, who recently completed a four-week artist in residency at the Walyalup Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

Noeleen Hamlett is a Yamitji Nyarlu artist from Mullewa, who recently completed a four-week artist in residency at the Walyalup Aboriginal Cultural Centre (WACC).

“I grew up watching my mum and brother carve emu eggs, so I was inspired by them and just got into art,” said Noeleen.

Noeleen says she found her time working at the WACC very peaceful.

“It’s like therapy,” she said.

The vibrant and colourful art piece Noeleen was working on while at the WACC is a family tree, with a focus on connection and roots.

“Wherever the winds may blow and the roads may take us, we will all come back to our roots,” she said.
