Add to calendar Book now ‘A librarian, a translator, a teacher and a bookseller walk into a library …’ In 2019, four writers with a passion for local history decided to form a writers group devoted to writing and researching historical fiction, narrative non-fiction and memoir. This prolific group has since completed a number of projects featuring local stories, investigating and celebrating Western Australia’s past. Since the formation of the History Writers’ Salon, the writers involved have shared numerous research tips, grappled with the challenges of plotting against the official record, and read hundreds – if not thousands – of digitised newspapers on Trove. All of them have been inspired in some way by the City of Fremantle, which features prominently in the creative consciousness of this group. Join them for a panel discussion about why Fremantle has an enduring hold on their imaginations, the ups and downs of writing history, and how a writing group can be the best way to cut through the mire of research. Presented by the History Writers’ Salon in association with Fremantle Library
