Guiding principles for child safety and wellbeing
The following guiding principles to support the City of Fremantle’s Statement of Commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing have been approved:
Creating a child safe community is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can ensure children and young people in Fremantle feel safe, supported and empowered.
The Statement formalises the City’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive and supportive environments for children and young people across all City services, programs, facilities and public spaces.
The City is embedding child safety principles into policies, procedures, training, governance and everyday practices across the organisation.
The commitment applies to elected members, employees, volunteers, contractors, partners and anyone delivering services on behalf of the City.
Children and young people have the right to feel safe, valued, heard and respected. The City recognises its responsibility to support and safeguard children and young people in our community.
Yes. The Statement aligns with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and reflects recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The Statement forms part of the City’s broader Child Safe Organisation Project, including policy review, staff training and continuous improvement initiatives.
