City of Fremantle
Coastal Charm
Volunteers help make Fremantle a welcoming, vibrant and connected community. Volunteering not only benefits the people and places around you, it also provides opportunities for personal growth and meaningful experiences.
By volunteering, you can:
Contribute to your community – support local programs, events and initiatives that make Fremantle a better place.
Care for local parks and natural areas – participate in conservation, planting, and environmental projects that protect our city’s green spaces.
Meet new people – connect with residents, fellow volunteers, and community groups from diverse backgrounds.
Share skills and knowledge – use your experience to help others, whether mentoring, leading activities, or supporting community programs.
Develop new experiences – gain confidence, build skills, and explore areas of interest that can enhance your personal and professional growth.
Volunteering is flexible: whether you have a few hours to spare or want to commit regularly, there’s an opportunity for everyone to make a positive impact.

Volunteer as a friendly face for visitors—sharing local knowledge and helping people discover the best of Fremantle through the Fremantle Visitor Centre.
Take an active role in helping Fremantle be a great place to live, work, or play. Precinct groups strengthen communication and help connect residents with the City and other community stakeholders.

Community gardens are shared spaces where people grow produce, learn gardening skills, and connect with others. They can be located on private land, leased land, or land held by the City of Fremantle.
If you’re interested in starting a community garden, learning more, or applying to use City-held land, you can find guidance and application forms on the Community Gardens page.
Existing gardens also welcome volunteers — a great way to get involved, meet people, and contribute to local sustainability projects.
Friends groups help care for parks, bushland and natural spaces through activities such as planting, weeding and habitat restoration.
The City of Fremantle’s Volunteer Development Service helps connect individuals with volunteer opportunities and offers training and support to
connect residents with volunteering opportunities
support volunteer-involving organisations
provide training and development opportunities
strengthen volunteering across the Fremantle community
We also collaborate with neighbouring councils to strengthen volunteering across the region. If you’re based in the Cockburn or Melville areas, their Volunteer Centres are also a great resource.
