Public transport and cycling

Getting around the City without a car has never been easier

Fremantle is easy to navigate without a car, with accessible public transport and a compact, walkable city centre.

The Fremantle Train Station and Fremantle Bus Port are centrally located and provide convenient access to key destinations. Many of Fremantle’s major attractions are within walking distance, including Fishing Boat Harbour, museums and galleries, the city centre shopping district, cinemas, the Cappuccino Strip, and a range of dining options.

Regular train services operated by Transperth connect Fremantle to Perth and surrounding areas. Bus services are coordinated with train timetables to support smooth and efficient transfers.

Bus stops are located throughout Fremantle, making it easy to travel across the city. Route 532 operates in both directions through the Fremantle CBD every 15 minutes during daytime hours, seven days a week, providing a frequent and reliable service.

Cycling

Bike riding is a healthy and eco-friendly means of transport.

Although Fremantle is built on a series of hills, the most interesting parts of the City – the CBD, the historic West End precinct, Fishing Boat Harbour, Swan River and the beaches of Leighton, Port and South Fremantle – are all reasonably level and easily accessible by bike.

Dedicated bicycle lanes throughout the city and shared cycle paths running north, south and along the river make it easy for cyclists to move around.

Here is a handy guide to cycle rules and safety and a cycling map from the Department of Transport.

Bike hire

The Fremantle Visitor Centre offers free bike hire to visitors so they can explore what the Port City has to offer.

All major attractions and precincts easily accessible by bicycle, there are dedicated cycle lanes throughout the city centre & shared paths running north and south so you can experience more during your day.
