Sustainability Report 2022/23 to 2023/24

Our Sustainability Report outlines key achievements across the 2022/23 and 2023/24 financial years. It aligns with the One Planet Living Framework and reports on progress against our One Planet Living Action Plan 2020-2025, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to sustainable practices.

Our commitments

The City is in the process of developing a new strategic framework, that will guide our work towards a more sustainable Fremantle. Our commitments include:

Solar Powered City Solar PV systems present a huge opportunity for Western Australians to produce their own energy, reduce costs and secure an emissions-free future. Currently, four City owned and operated assets have solar PV installed. On average, these sites generate a total of over 400,000 kwh per year.
Green Energy Power Purchase Agreement The City entered into a renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) in 2022. The PPA enables procurement of green energy across 14 City sites presenting significant cost savings, reducing emissions from coal fired electricity and increase demand for renewable energy in WA.
LED lighting upgrades Streetlighting owned by the City is being methodically upgraded to more energy efficient LED lights, as existing incandescent lights reach their end of life. As of 2025, around 40-45% of City-owned lighting infrastructure is LED.
Electric vehicles As part of the City’s pathway to Net Zero, the City is slowly transitioning its fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles. A 10-year fleet and plant program guides the replacement and acquisition of vehicles in line with our emission reduction targets.
