If you would like to request a new verge tree for your residential address complete the online form linked below:

Important note: Once an application for a street tree has been received by our Urban Forest team, your details will be registered. Tree planting is undertaken from May through to September each year, to ensure the greatest chance of tree survival. The City’s Urban Forest team will undertake a verge inspection, and at this time, you will be contacted to discuss the suitability of a new tree in relation to the existing streetscape.

Your New Street Tree

If you receive a new street tree, the City will take great care in helping it thrive. Here’s a look at the services provided:

Tree Planting and Soil Prep: Trees are planted with a special mix of soil, compost, and nutrients to give them the best start.
Support and Protection: Stakes and support lines will be added to help young trees stay upright and supported. These will be removed once the tree has developed sufficient basal support—typically after 12–18 months.
Pruning and Monitoring: The City will monitor the tree and do any necessary formative pruning. Please don’t prune it yourself.
Regular Watering: The City will water your tree weekly for two years, including extra nutrients during the growing season. After the two years, you are encouraged to continue providing water to help the tree thrive!
Extra Help is Welcome: Feel free to give your tree some extra water, especially during summer.
Protect the tree: Please avoid digging around the base of the tree and be careful when carrying out verge maintenance not to damage the main trunk of the tree. This can prevent tree decline/death and soil compaction by not parking on the verge. The soil is required to be aerated for the tree to become established.
