The City of Fremantle thanks the State Government for its support in delivering this important community infrastructure.

The City of Fremantle has completed a significant lighting upgrade at Ken Allen Field in Beaconsfield, improving access for local clubs while creating a safer, more welcoming space for the wider community.

The project involved the installation of new LED sports lighting, delivering competition-level lighting that allows the field to be used for evening training and games.

The upgrade was supported by the State Government through the Club Night Lights Program, with funding administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

City of Fremantle Mayor, Ben Lawver, said the upgrade would deliver benefits for both clubs and the wider community.

“This upgrade means Ken Allen Field can now support both training and competition at night, while also making the space more accessible and safer for everyone in the community,” Lawver said.

“The lighting can be adjusted depending on how the field is being used, from competitive sport through to more casual and recreational use.”

The upgraded system allows for multiple lighting levels, supporting competitive and social sport, as well as lower-level ambient lighting for general community use such as walking, informal recreation and dog exercise.

The improved lighting also enhances safety by increasing visibility across the space during the evening.

Local clubs will benefit from extended training hours, reduced scheduling pressure and the ability to host evening matches, while the broader community can enjoy a more accessible and well-lit public space.
