Community groups and individuals are being asked to contribute their thoughts on the revised vision for the Manjaree area, which includes Bathers Beach and the Arthur Head / Round House precinct. A community engagement process has begun, to get an understanding of the public’s response to the vision, purpose and guiding principles for the future management of the area. At its last meeting, Fremantle Council unanimously adopted the revised vision, that is, for Manjaree to be “a vibrant, inclusive, creative precinct where First Nations culture, colonial heritage and contemporary arts and culture connect and thrive together through community-led initiatives supported by the City”. As part of the engagement process, the City will reach out to key stakeholders to seek their contributions to the strategic direction for future renewal and activation. In acknowledging the work to date, Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said she anticipates engagement from across the community. “This is a vision that aspires to be the best of what Fremantle is. We envisage this to be a legacy piece for Fremantle. Something that tells the story of our long history, for everyone in the future.” Submissions can be made by visiting the City’s mysay.fremantle.wa.gov.au website, where there are also FAQs about the process. Submissions close at 5pm on Wednesday 16 July 2025. The City is working separately on a program of events to mark Fremantle’s 2029 Commemoration. The Towards 2029 Working Group will be updated on the Manjaree engagement process and next stages as they relate to 2029 objectives. The City is keen to hear from a wide variety of people about their ideas for how 2029 can be commemorated. A public engagement program for this will be announced in due course.
