Date 08 April 2025 Category Media release Topic Arts and culture Fremantle’s much-loved music festival, Hidden Treasures, is returning this June with a new format and new locations. Taking place across three nights in June, this year’s festival is being curated by local artists and adds new venues that will see it expand out of Fremantle’s city centre. The Buffalo Club in Fremantle’s historic West End is confirmed for 5 June, with North Freo Bowlo on 12 June and Hilton Park Bowling on 19 June. Creative Programs Lead ‘Ofa Fotu said Hidden Treasures has adapted but it will always be a celebration of the live music scene in Walyalup | Fremantle. “This year, we’ve reached out to some awesome local artists and asked them to curate the shows. With names like Abbe May, Last Quokka, Phaedra Watts (Nannup Festival), and Nelson Mondlane (Super Ego) locking in the line-ups, audiences will not want to miss this year’s event. “Hidden Treasures is like a rite of passage for local emerging musicians, so we’re excited to see the new talent that takes to the stage this year,” Ms Fotu said. Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said that Hidden Treasures has been the heart of Fremantle’s music scene for more than a decade and it continues to evolve. “Over the past 14 years, it’s introduced audiences to new artists and unearthed live music venues in the most unexpected of places. “We are excited to present a musical smorgasbord this winter. Along with Hidden Treasures we are pleased to welcome the local and international acts performing at ARRIVAL, with more live music events to be announced. “With all the gigs on offer, and the broader scope with new locations, there’ll be no excuse to be stuck on the couch this winter,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said. Previously Hidden Treasures has been presented as part of the Fremantle Festival – 10 Nights in Port program, which will go ahead separately in August. “Hidden Treasures was paused in 2024, for the City to consult with the local music industry and review the event in a holistic way,” Ms Fotu said. “The live music industry is constantly changing, and by adapting our offering we can continue to do what we love: spotlight incredible emerging artists in unique venues across Fremantle.” Check the Hidden Treasures website for announcements hiddentreasuresfreo.com.au and visitfremantle.com.au for ARRIVAL and other live music events.
