Road closures

 

  • Queen Street, Cantonment Street & Adelaide Street
    Date: 12–17 April 2026 | Time: 6pm – 5am (overnight)

    A temporary road closure will be in place across sections of Queen Street, Cantonment Street and Adelaide Street to facilitate essential drainage maintenance works.
    Construction activities will occur overnight between 6pm and 5am, subject to weather conditions and contractor availability.
    Residents and businesses will continue to have access to their properties throughout the duration of the works, with traffic management in place to assist as required.
    As work locations will be confirmed daily, there may be some temporary disruption to vehicle and pedestrian access during this period.
    These works are essential to maintain and improve the City’s drainage infrastructure. 

    • Update – 14 April 2026:
      Works tonight will be undertaken at the Queen Street and Adelaide Street roundabout intersection from 7pm to 5am.
      An update will be provided following completion of works at this location. If works are not completed, no further update will be issued until the next confirmed location.

  • Douro Road (and surrounding side roads)
    Date: 13 – 17 April 2026 | Time: 7pm – 5am (each night)

    Temporary road closures will be in place on Douro Road and surrounding side roads during the above dates and times.
    These works are part of the first stage (resurfacing) of the project.
    Traffic management and signage will be in place to assist motorists and direct detours as required.


  • Skinner St, Beaconsfield
    Date: 15–17 April 2026 | Time: 6:30am – 4pm daily

    A temporary full road closure will be in place along Skinner St to undertake essential footpath and road works.
    Parking will not be permitted on Skinner St between 6:30am and 4pm each day.
    Residents and motorists are advised to follow the direction of traffic controllers and allow additional travel time.


  • Duffield Ave (between Dermer Rd & Mather Rd), Beaconsfield
    Date: 16 April 2026 | Time: 9am – 2pm

    A temporary road closure will be in place along Duffield Ave between Dermer Road and Mather Road due to a pool lift operation.
    Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist with traffic management and access as required during the works.
    Access for residents will be maintained where possible, and motorists are advised to follow the direction of traffic controllers and allow additional travel time.


  • Paddy Troy Mall (full closure)
    Date: 22 April 2026 | Time: 6am – 12pm

    A temporary full road closure will be in place on Paddy Troy Mall to facilitate air conditioning replacement works, including a crane lift commencing from 7am.
    All businesses have been notified to ensure deliveries are delayed or completed prior to the works.
    Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist with access for vehicles and pedestrians where required, with a 3.5m exclusion zone maintained around the crane.
    Traffic management and signage will be in place to assist users and direct access as required.


  • Simms Rd (southbound, from Winterfold Rd)
    Date:  23 April 2026 | Time: 5pm – 5am

    A temporary southbound road closure will be in place on Simms Rd during the above date and time.
    An eastbound right-turn pocket from Winterfold Rd into Simms Rd (within City of Fremantle boundaries) will also be closed.
    Traffic management and signage will be in place to assist motorists and direct detours as required.


  • Marmion St Westbound (partial closure)
    Date: 24 April 2026 | Time: 9am – 2:30pm

    A temporary closure will be in place on Marmion St Westbound between Wilkinson St & Onslow St to facilitate a crane lift between 9am – 2:30pm (approx. 3–4 hours).
    Traffic management and signage will be in place to assist users and direct access as required.


  • William Street (westbound, between Parry Street & Henderson Street)
    Date: 28 April 2026 | Time: 9am – 2pm

    A temporary westbound road closure will be in place on William Street between Parry Street and Henderson Street during the above date and time to facilitate planned works.
    Traffic management and appropriate signage will be implemented to assist motorists and maintain safety within the work zone. Detours will be in place as required.
    Access for residents and businesses will be maintained where practicable, however short delays may occur.
    Motorists are advised to follow all directional signage and traffic controller instructions.


  • Queen Victoria Street (northbound, from Parry Street)
    Date: 29 April 2026 | Time: 7pm – 5am

    A temporary northbound road closure will be in place on Queen Victoria Street during the above date and time.
    The closure is required to facilitate installation of a new fire service at 8 Queen Victoria Street.
    Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to assist motorists and direct detours as required.


Anzac Day road closures | 25 April 2026

Full closures will be in place for the below roads for Anzac Day commemorations.

  • Market St, South Tce, Henderson St Mall, William St & Adelaide St
    Time: 8am – 12pm
  • Harvest Rd
    Time: 8am – 10:30am

Detours will be in place, and advance notifications have been issued to affected stakeholders.


May Day Parade | 3 May 2025

Full closures will be in place for the below roads for the May Day Parade.

Marine Terrace, Essex Street, South Terrace, High Street & Mouat Street
Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm

Detours will be in place, and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during this period.


Major works

Swan River Crossing

The Swan River Crossings Project is one of the most complex and challenging projects undertaken by Main Roads WA, involving road, port, freight, river, walking, cycling, heritage and environmental considerations.

The Fremantle Traffic Bridge will close Sunday 1 February, 2026 to enable completion of major works, including removal of the existing bridge, installation of the new bridge deck and construction of the new road.
