Fremantle is thrilled to be crowned Australia’s Top Tourism Town for 2025, as announced at an awards ceremony this morning at Parliament House in Canberra. Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge was there to accept the coveted Gold award, presented by the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC). “As a tourism destination, it’s about being authentic to your story. Visitors love to connect with genuine experiences, and we love sharing our heritage, culture and coastline with them. “Fremantle has an amazing live music scene, incredible food, buzzing markets, stunning beaches and is home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Fremantle Prison. People who live in Fremantle love it for the same reasons visitors do. “We get nearly a million day trippers to Fremantle each year. “This award is recognition for the many passionate people, guides, volunteers, operators, artists, and business owners, who bring Fremantle to life. “I commend the other finalists and thank the judges, organisers and sponsors. This is a celebration of the diversity of towns and communities that make up Australia’s tourism story,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said. Fremantle eclipsed Devonport in Tasmania (Silver), Kiama in New South Wales (Bronze) and three other state finalists in the category for a population over 5,000. Chair of the City’s Destination Marketing Working Group, Linda Wayman, offered her congratulations. “This is excellent proof of a good strategy well executed by a great team at the City of Fremantle, with regular input from the local tourism industry using an effective and transparent governance structure in the form of the Destination Marketing Working Group. “Congratulations to the City’s marketing team, its fabulous visitor services team and my co-members of the DMWG,” Ms Wayman said. Fremantle Chamber of Commerce CEO and Chair Elect of Destination Perth, Chrissie Maus, also offered her congratulations. “We are absolutely thrilled that Fremantle has been crowned Australia’s Top Tourism Town for 2025. Fremantle is not just a destination, it’s an experience, where heritage streets meet bold creativity and every laneway hums with stories, flavours and possibility. “As CEO of the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce and Chair Elect of Destination Perth, I could not be prouder of our Port City and the passionate local businesses who bring this place to life every single day! This award is because of them! “This recognition cements Fremantle’s place as the beating heart of Western Australia’s tourism story and a sparkling must-visit for travellers from near and far,” said Ms Maus Mayor Fitzhardinge invited everyone to come and experience Fremantle for themselves.
