The Destination Development Working Group is a strategic advisory group established to support the growth of Fremantle’s visitor economy.

The City of Fremantle is inviting nominations for the role of Chair of the Destination Development Working Group, a strategic advisory group established in 2018 to support the growth of Fremantle’s visitor economy and broader economic development objectives.

The Chair and Working Group plays a critical role in advising the City on how destination development, visitor attraction and place activation can drive economic growth, business confidence, employment and investment, particularly across Fremantle’s retail, hospitality, accommodation and tourism sectors.

As Chair, you will lead a group of experienced professionals, local business leaders and key stakeholders, providing strategic direction and governance oversight across destination development priorities, major campaigns, events and activations, partnership development and advocacy. The role works closely with City officers to ensure alignment between destination initiatives and the City’s broader economic and place‑making agenda.

A core responsibility of the Chair is to guide the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy 2025–2030, while also supporting the delivery of the 2023–2027 Destination Development Strategic Plan, particularly where tourism, visitation and destination investment contribute to wider economic outcomes.

The City is seeking a Chair with demonstrated senior experience in economic development, destination development, strategy, tourism or a related field, along with strong governance capability, commercial acumen and the ability to lead collaborative, outcome‑focused discussions.

An Expression of Interest document is available on the Destination Development Working Group page.

Applicants are asked to submit a brief statement outlining their relevant experience and suitability for the role, together with a current CV/resume, via email to caitlins@fremantle.wa.gov.au

Applications close on Friday 22 May, 5pm AWST. Late applications will not be considered.

Appointments are for a two‑year term, or until the next ordinary election of Council.
