Date 04 September 2026 Category Media release Topic Arts and culture Arts Grants of up to $10,000 are now available to support creative projects that engage and benefit the Walyalup/Fremantle community. The City of Fremantle’s Arts Grants program has been expanded to provide greater support for diverse arts and cultural projects and initiatives that have a positive impact on the local community. Grants of up to $10,000 are available — an increase from the previous maximum of $7,500 — giving local artists, creatives and community groups greater capacity to deliver ambitious projects across Walyalup/Fremantle. The program, which consists of two grant rounds per year, has also been made easier to access, with a fresh set of guidelines to help applicants complete their grant forms, along with a simpler application form and process. The updated Arts Grants guidelines and assessment criteria have been shaped by community feedback received through the City’s Strategic Community Plan. The changes place a stronger focus on projects that: • make use of outdoor and publicly accessible spaces across Walyalup/Fremantle • create participatory experiences where audiences can get involved • are driven by the community and respond to local needs and ideas • improve accessibility, inclusion and affordability • celebrate and support First Nations communities and culture • reflect Walyalup/Fremantle’s cultural diversity • support LGBTQIA+ communities • create opportunities for young people The City of Fremantle is encouraging artists, creatives, community organisations and groups with ideas for projects that bring people together through arts and culture to consider applying. To support applicants, the City of Fremantle is hosting an information session on Monday 14 September 2026 at 5.30pm at the Walyalup Civic Centre. Registration is recommended. The City is also offering one-on-one online meetings for applicants to ask questions specific to their proposed projects. Applications are now open and will close on Wednesday 30 September 2026.
