50m pool remediation works FAQ

Starting in June 2025, the City of Fremantle will undertake some major renovation works on the 50-metre lap pool. The work includes retiling sections of the pool and replacing the ageing filter system with a new, more efficient system.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Find out more below:

The 50m pool will be closed from Monday 30 June 2025.

While the work is being done, the 50-metre lap pool will be closed.

The covered 25-metre pool, the program pool and the leisure playground pool will remain open. The gym will also remain open.

The pool will be closed from June. We will endeavour to give patrons as much notice as possible of the estimated start date. It is expected that work will be finished by the end of the year.

Some recent discussion suggesting that the pool would be closed for a number of years is incorrect.

The 50-metre pool is 50 years old and needs regular work to ensure it is safe, fit-for-purpose and up to the standards our patrons expect.

To minimise the impact during periods of high usage of the 50-meter pool, the bulk of the work will happen in the cooler months.

We have confirmed reciprocal entry arrangements with Leisurefit Booragoon, Claremont Aquatic and Cockburn ARC.

If you have a Full Access or Aquatic Access membership you can swim at these centres for free. We will communicate with those members prior to the closure on how they gain free entry.

Access includes general lap swimming only. Aqua fitness, warm water recovery pools, spa, sauna and other programs at these centres are not included and must be paid for separately

We’ve prioritised our members and internal programs throughout the closure. This means external squad users have been notified that we’re unable to accommodate them for the time being — ensuring more space and better access for you, especially during our peak times!

Happy with the alternatives? Great! You don’t need to do anything — your membership stays active with us and includes:

  • 25m and Program Pool access
  • Full Gym access (if you’re a Full Access member)
  • Free 50m lap swimming at partner pools (you will need to show your booked session to gain entry)

Not happy with the arrangements?

  • Direct Debit Members: If you feel the temporary arrangements don’t suit your needs, you can cancel your membership by giving us at least 5 days’ notice before your next scheduled direct debit.
  • If you decide to cancel, we will waive the joining fee up to 1 (one) month after the 50m pool reopens.
  • Upfront Membership Holders: If you have time remaining on your membership and the closure impacts your usage, please get in touch with our team to discuss available options.

Fitness Passport holders should log onto their Fitness Passport account to locate facilities nearby if you wish to swim in a 50m pool. Your FLC Fitness passport membership does not allow reciprocal access arrangements to our partner facilites.
