Paying Attention: Writing powerful flash fiction using the detail of everyday life with Gillian O’Shaughnessy.

Tiny stories draw power from specific detail and careful observation.

In this fun and generative workshop, you’ll learn how to pay close attention to the world and draw on your own memories and experiences to create vivid and emotionally resonant flash fiction.

You’ll learn how to make paying attention part of your everyday writing practice and transform the personal into the fictional, guided by award-winning writer, Gillian O’Shaughnessy. 

Suitable for novice and experienced writers.

Things to note:

  • The workshop is FREE but bookings are essential.
  • Stories produced in this workshop may also be considered for inclusion in Totally Lit’s Writ Large program – an opportunity to see your words projected onto the iconic Fremantle Ports Administration Building during Totally Lit 2026.
