The works form part of the City’s Low Cost Urban Projects program (installation of asphalt plateaus). Intersection closures are required to safely and efficiently undertake the works and associated after-care activities. Road closures will be implemented throughout June to August 2026 at the following locations:

Stack St, Fremantle Date: 31 Aug- 4 Sept 2026 | Time: 24/7
At the intersection of Amherst Street and Stack Street will be subject to a temporary road closure to complete water main upgrades, all other works should be completed within the verge along Amherst St.
Traffic management measures and detours will be implemented to assist motorists and maintain access where possible.
15 McCabe Street will be closed to traffic between 9am and 3pm on the listed dates to complete under road boring for new services.
The road will be closed to traffic between 7am and 5pm on the listed dates to allow the safe lifting of multiple air conditioning units onto nearby buildings. Access to properties will be maintained via Swan Street, and traffic controllers will be on site to assist motorists and pedestrians. Waste collection services will continue to have access on scheduled collection days.
The Swan River Crossings Project is one of the most complex and challenging projects undertaken by Main Roads WA, involving road, port, freight, river, walking, cycling, heritage and environmental considerations.
The Fremantle Traffic Bridge will close Sunday 1 February, 2026 to enable completion of major works, including removal of the existing bridge, installation of the new bridge deck and construction of the new road.
