Fremantle Park Sport & Community Centre Under City Management

The City of Fremantle has transitioned to the direct management of the Fremantle Park Sport & Community Centre, marking an exciting new chapter for a much-loved community space that brings people together through activities, programs, events and social connection.

Since 1 July 2026, City staff have been working closely with existing centre users and sporting clubs to ensure a smooth transition, maintain continuity of services, and explore opportunities to strengthen the centre’s contribution to community wellbeing.

The centre is now managed by the City’s Recreation Services team, which already operates the Fremantle Leisure Centre and Samson Recreation Centre.

Fremantle Mayor Ben Lawver said the new management model would help secure the long-term future of the centre while increasing opportunities for community access and participation.

“Fremantle Park Sport & Community Centre has long played an important role in bringing people together through sport, recreation and social connection.

“By bringing the centre under direct City management, we can ensure it remains a welcoming, well-maintained and accessible community space for years to come.

“We are committed to working closely with the existing clubs and community users throughout this transition and look forward to creating even more opportunities for people to enjoy this important community asset,” Mayor Lawver said.

The City has confirmed that the three clubs based at the centre — Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club, Fremantle Bowls Club and Fremantle Workers Club — will continue to operate from their existing areas and deliver their regular memberships, competitions and sporting programs.

As part of the transition, the upstairs function room will be available for hire by the broader community from 3 August 2026. Public bookings can be made via the venue’s website, with hire options available for community, commercial and private events.

The change follows reviews undertaken since 2023, which identified challenges with the previous shared management model, including increasing operating costs, financial pressures, reduced volunteer capacity and limited availability of spaces for broader community use.

Under the new arrangements, the City will be responsible for managing the building and internal spaces, including bookings, cleaning, maintenance, utilities, safety requirements and compliance. Sporting clubs will continue to manage their courts, greens, memberships and sporting programs.

To support ongoing collaboration, a Fremantle Park Centre Clubs Committee has been established, comprising representatives from each of the three clubs and a City officer as chair, providing a forum for discussion of operational matters and future opportunities.
