Underground power for South Fremantle and City South

A quiet residential street with tall trees, power poles, and parked cars. Sunlight casts shadows on houses, fences, and recycling bins lining both sides of the street. A street sign reads Parmelia Ave.

Western Power is in the early stages of planning for the South Fremantle and City South underground power project.

The current electricity infrastructure is ageing and instead of replacing the overhead poles and wires, the City of Fremantle is taking the opportunity to futureproof the area by installing underground power.

South Fremantle residents will benefit from a reliable power supply, more opportunities for emerging technologies, better tree canopy, improved street appearance and increased property values.

Construction is anticipated to start in 2026, but before then the City of Fremantle will need to build its reserves, to contribute to the project which is co-funded by Western Power.

Details about the public information sessions to be held in May and June 2024 will be released shortly.
