The temporary pause follows concerns raised by some members of the community about the proposed removal of trees as part of works to deliver the new junior oval and safely remove asbestos-containing material (ACM) identified within the site. City officers will mark out the location of the proposed junior oval on the ground to clearly show its footprint and the trees impacted within the work area. A site walk with community will be proposed later this week, at a time to be confirmed. The project team will use this information, together with the requirements for the safe removal of ACM, to further review, test and clarify the extent of the proposed works for the junior oval. The junior oval forms part of the adopted Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan, which was developed following extensive community consultation. The redevelopment represents a significant investment in Hilton Park, supported by $3.75 million from the Australian Government and $3.75 million from the City of Fremantle. The City remains committed to delivering the adopted Masterplan, while recognising how strongly the community values established trees.
