Hilton Park Precinct

Hilton Park is Fremantle’s largest recreation and sporting open space. The redevelopment will transform the precinct into a more accessible, sustainable and vibrant community destination with upgraded sporting facilities, improved parklands and new places for people to gather, play and connect. 

The project is guided by the Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan, which was developed in consultation with the community and adopted by Council. 

The Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan sets out the long-term vision for the redevelopment of Hilton Park. It identifies how the precinct will be renewed over time through upgraded sporting facilities, improved community spaces, enhanced recreation opportunities and increased tree canopy and landscaping. 

The Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan was developed alongside the Hilton Park Place Plan following extensive community engagement and was adopted by Council in 2024. 

Stage One focuses on revitalising the northern section of Hilton Park and includes: 

• refurbishment of the Brad Hardie Pavilion  

• new senior and junior sporting ovals  

• improved park infrastructure and accessibility  

• increased tree planting and landscaping  

• supporting works to prepare the site for future stages of the redevelopment.  

The Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan outlines a long-term vision for the park, with future stages delivered as funding becomes available. 

Future improvements include: 

• a new central community hub and shared soccer facility  

• a new southern building for cricket and community use  

• new recreation spaces, including a pump track, basketball court and skate park  

• improved walking paths and pedestrian connections  

• increased tree canopy and native landscaping  

• gathering spaces that recognise Whadjuk Nyoongar culture and heritage.  

Stage One of the Hilton Park Precinct Redevelopment is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the City of Fremantle.

The Australian Government is contributing $3.75 million through the Thriving Suburbs Program, with the City providing matching funding of $3.75 million.

The City will continue to seek additional funding opportunities to support future stages of the redevelopment.

The Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan was developed through extensive community and stakeholder engagement during 2023. 

Residents, sporting clubs, community groups and Whadjuk Nyoongar Elders shared ideas and feedback through online engagement, public events and workshops.

This input helped shape both the Place Plan and the Masterplan adopted by Council.

The redevelopment will be delivered in stages over a number of years. 

Stage One is now underway, with future stages delivered as funding becomes available. The Masterplan identifies priorities over the short, medium and longer term. 

Yes. Hilton Park will remain open throughout the redevelopment where it is safe to do so. 

Some areas will be temporarily closed while construction is underway. Temporary closures, detours and any changes to access will be communicated before works begin.
