Fremantle Leisure Centre

FINAL FLC WORKS UPDATE: 3 DECEMBER 2021

We are pleased to announce that the Fremantle Leisure Centre will reopen on Monday 6 December at 5:30am.

Contractors and staff are now finishing off the finer details of the works. The heating systems are back on, the water is being treated and balanced, the electrics have been connected for the new 50m pool light towers (see image of this week's light testing above) and the poles for the shade structure are in the ground. We thank our members, swim program families, pass holders, staff and the wider community during this necessary closure and look forward to seeing you all very soon.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is there no roof on the 25m pavilion?
The roof cladding was removed due to its age and has deteriorated to the point that during strong winds sections of the roof were breaking away, making it unsafe.

When will there be a roof on the 25m pavilion?
We hope that works will commence after the April school holidays and be finished by the end of June 2022.

Why can’t you get shade over the 25m pool for the interim?
Due to the sheer size of the structure, a temporary solution is not feasible. It would need to be custom fabricated, it would need to sustain strong winds, it probably would not meet building compliance and it would mean that the pools would be closed even longer.

Will the centre be closed when the new roof is installed?
No, only the 25m and leisure pools. All other areas will remain open. However, there will be some impact to our programs.

When will the shade be reinstalled over the lawns?
Installation to the northern and southern ends will be commencing 20th December. The western section (adjacent the 50m) will be installed 2nd week January 2022.

Will swimming lesson resume on Monday 6 December?
No, swimming lessons will resume in the new year. We have a holiday program in January and regular term swimming lessons commence Monday 31 January 2022. Click here for more information on the January holiday Program 2022.

If you have been on suspension during the FLC closure period, your suspension will end on Sunday 5 December, unless otherwise arranged with our team. The last day of sessions for 2021 is Saturday 18 December, returning in 2022 on Monday 10 January.
