Fremantle’s Paddy Troy Mall is set for a facelift under a new partnership with RAC.

The mall, located between the famous Cappuccino Strip and Fremantle’s renewed civic heart Walyalup Koort, will be revitalised through new street art, enhanced pedestrian connections and alfresco areas, and improved lighting and landscaping.

The project is being delivered in partnership with RAC through its Reconnect WA initiative, which aims to create vibrant streets and public spaces for Western Australians to interact and connect with each other.

RAC Group Executive Social and Community Impact Patrick Walker said RAC was proud to invest another $1 million into community projects which change the look and feel of streets and public spaces.

“We’re very excited to continue Reconnect WA for a second year and partner with more local governments to deliver projects which will breathe new life and colour into our communities,” Mr Walker said.

“Pop-up activation spaces, public artwork, slower speed and more pedestrian-friendly streets are just some examples of the exciting projects receiving funding this year.

“By trialling new ways of using our streets and outdoor public spaces for people to safely come together, these projects will help lay the foundations for longer term changes that support RAC’s vision for a safer, sustainable and connected WA.”

More than 4,200 RAC members helped to choose the funding recipients by casting a vote on their favourite project.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said she was delighted the Paddy Troy Mall revitalisation was selected.

“Paddy Troy Mall is a really important space that links the Cappuccino Strip with the newly revitalised Walyalup Koort, Walyalup Civic Centre and FOMO precinct,” Mayor Fitzhardinge.

“In years gone by the mall was mostly used as a place for people to park their cars and put the bins out, but more recently it’s been transformed by the restoration of the historic Manning Buildings, the expansion of the alfresco areas of hotels and restaurants and some fabulous street art.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with RAC on the Paddy Troy Mall revitalisation project, which will build on the progress that’s already been made to create another bustling, vibrant and attractive precinct in the heart of Fremantle.”

The City of Fremantle is also contributing funding to the project, which involves the removal of parking bays within the mall to create more space for pedestrians and alfresco areas.

There will also be upgrades to the lighting, additional landscaping and trees along the mall and the delivery of a prominent street art project.
